In the simplest terms, an ISO image is a picture of a real deal CD or DVD. Imagine a physical disk is just that, physical. An ISO is a one to one copy of that physical disk dumped into a container, iso. And that's it. Most of the history behind the ISO standard is beyond anyone who isn't an engineer; it's pretty beyond them, too. Here's a link if you care.

Someone has told you that you need to acquire a BitTorrent client and get to pirating music, games, and movies! Stop freaking out there, jerkhole. It's good. Download Winrar. Speed through the install, clicking yes or next to everything until it's done. Click on the file that is named yourballs.rar and unrar it somewhere cozy where you can remember it.

They're just plain-jane .ISO files with a different extension.

Go download either DAA2ISO or UIF2ISO, whichever it is. Fuck some Power/MagicISO right in the ear. Also, these are in .ZIP format. Winrar can unpack them too! YAY! Also also, I WILL KILL YOUR FACE WITH A HAMMER IF YOU CANNOT FIGURE THIS OUT. :D

It's either a direct copy of an original disk or a bunch of files on a disk. But forget all that shit. Did the download come with a .NFO file? Open that in notepad. It's got directions.

You'll need to know how to mount an image. This can be done many ways, but we'll stick with DaemonTools because it's retarded simple. It has a million billion options to bypass securom and other cd checking bullfuck.
When you install, it'll more than likely want to install some fake SCSI drive. Let it. It'll probably want to restart the machine, too. Let it. When it comes back up, you'll be able to continue where it left off. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, READ THIS PART FAGGOT: be careful not to install the search bar it comes with. It's a pain in the asshole so it's better to check the "DO NOT INSTALL THIS OTHER STUPID SHIT" box.
When it finishes installing, right click the red lightning bolt in the task bar (1). Go to VIRTUAL CD/DVD (2) and find your iso, cue, bin, or what the fuck ever (3).
It will bring up a little box saying please wait. This is normal.
Right click the red lightning bolt again (1). Go to Emulation (2) and All options ON (3).
The red lightning bolt will turn green. This is a wondermous sign.
YAY! You've just mounted your first ISO. Open up My Computer and, BOOYA, there it is. Run as normal.

You bet your sweet ass there is. Virtual Clone Drive is a nice, free, alternative to Daemontools, but suffers from the sheer extension support of DT. VCD can do, perhaps maybe, 3 or 4 extensions, while DT dominates (almost) all of them. VirtualCloneDrive is just something simple to mount an ISO if you don't care about the security checking shit like Securom or Starforce.

You sure as fuck can! IsoRecorder can do that easy as fucking pie (NOTE: according to the page, DVD ISO support is only available for Vista or above). (UPDATE) Among the ongoing search for free shit to load onto an ancient computer, I've found BurnCDCC from Terabyte Unlimited. All the fucker does is burn ISO to CD. THAT IS IT. And that is awesome.
Nero can do it as well as a bunch of other programs, but that's for another how to.
